Stop the Wind Turbines off Guildwood Shores

Please tell me this is just a bad dream. Surely the Scarborough Bluffs waterfront isn't being considered for a wind farm. Forget the environmental assessment. Forget the wind tests. Scarborough Bluffs' waterfront is non-negotiable. Email any comments here

Forget about visually polluting our beautiful shoreline. All the money in the world can't buy what Scarborough has on our southern boundary. It's been here for millions of years. Don't destroy it for the sake of feeding our power thirsty corporations or Toronto's wasteful consumerism. Our waterfront is a major part of our Guildwood identity. It is intertwined with the very spirit of our residents and community.

Scarborough Bluffs belongs to the citizens of Scarborough, Canada and the world, not to Toronto Hydro! Go find another location. Scarborough Bluffs is off limits. Go back to your drawing boards and find something feasible elsewhere - even if it means we have to erect twice as many turbines to create the same amount of electricity as what's available here.

Establishing the test site alone will cost over 1 Million dollars. Don't waste our tax or hydro dollars on tests that don't have the community support in the first place. Don't do it! Don't test and don't erect 60 - 80 wind turbines on our water front without giving us a chance to research and respond in an informed manner.

Again I say, go back to the drawing board. If this is the best location, come back to us and ask us in a neighbourly manner. Don't try to sneak things through until our politicians finally think of letting us know and tell us we have only days to respond before a deadline to oppose your invasion. Why don't you be the one to set up the Town Hall meeting in a peaceful manner, instead of forcing our hand.

An interesting observation I heard from a neighbour, which on the surface appears to be a valid point, 'if the wind is so good off the bluffs - wouldn't you think there would be more sail boats??' Friends and neighbours - There is no need to duplicate efforts that are already working well elsewhere. I have captured a few important headlines and urge you to stay updated about this issue at:

Federal Green Party Candidate Says - Sorry, Can't Support Wind Turbines
My sense is that once we are all informed and determine the net impact, we will choose to say to our would-be wind-farmer neighbor, as I have done with mine, Sorry old friend, I can't support this project.

If natural or God made beauty isn't sacred than manmade entertainment is of even less value. I've heard it said that there's no where else in Toronto to build a windturbine farm. If the CNE already has one, why not build more there. If NIMBY doesn't count in Scarborough - it doesn't count elsewhere, either. This could become an extremely polarizing debate.
On average, the 750kW wind turbine at Exhibition Place will generate 1,400 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year, equivalent to the electricity needs of about 250 homes, and can displace about 494 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
